Dad takes photos of Down Syndrome son ‘flying’

A dad in Utah, USA, has taken a series of photos of his son ‘flying’ in order to share the message that children with Down Syndrome are a joy to have around. Art director Alan Lawrence said that when his son Wil was born in 2013 he didn’t take it well at first because he thought that his new son would be a burden.

However, he now knows how wrong he was, and these beautiful images show how he wants his boy Wil to think of himself.

“He arches his back and puts his hands out. I never pose him, that’s the funny part — he just naturally wants to fly,” Lawrence told Today.com.

Back in 2015 family and friends wanted to help them create calendars, and they launched a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds for a road trip. The goal? To take more photos in gorgeous locations, and meet with other families with Down Syndrome children.

“Our family with Wil is happy. We want to show the world that you can have a happy life with a child with Down Syndrome. We don’t have to give up all the things we love to do as a family because Wil has Down Syndrome. He helps us slow down and find the joy in life.”

Half the proceeds from each calendar sale will go to two Down Syndrome Foundations:

Ruby’s Rainbows: http://www.rubysrainbow.org

Reece’s Rainbows: http://reecesrainbow.org

These communities do a wonderful job of helping children to be placed in a loving home, and they also help adults with Down Syndrome go to college which is fantastic!
